Choosing between zip guided and straight drop outdoor blinds starts with the opening you want to cover. Both are made to measure by Blindmotion and can be ordered for DIY installation with delivery across Australia. The main difference is how the fabric is held at the sides.

When should I choose zip guided blinds?
Choose ZipGrip zip guided outdoor blinds if your opening has sound fixing points for channels on both sides and you want the fabric retained along the edges. The side channels and bottom seal help limit gaps where insects, leaves and weather could enter. Performance depends on the opening, installation and conditions; an outdoor blind is not a sealed wall.
When should I choose straight drop blinds?
Choose straight drop outdoor blinds if you want a simpler, lower priced shade solution. The blind hangs without side tracks and uses bottom clips for retention when lowered. It is well suited to openings where side channels are not needed or cannot be supported. It will leave more open space at the sides than a zip guided system.
What about fabric and operation?
Both products offer outdoor mesh or clear PVC and manual or motorised operation. Fabric visibility, privacy and light control vary by choice, so request fabric samples before ordering if colour or openness matters. Check each product configurator for the currently available fabrics, dimensions and price for your measurements.
How wide can these blinds be?
Both ZipGrip and Straight Drop blinds are available up to 6400mm wide across all fabric and control options. Enter your dimensions and selections in the product configurator for a price. Freight costs for wide blinds are a separate consideration.
What about wind and rain?
Outdoor blinds reduce exposure but do not make your space weatherproof. Follow the operating guidance for your selected blind and raise it when conditions are unsuitable.
Which is easier to install?
Straight drop is the simpler DIY project. ZipGrip needs more precise alignment and fixing of its channels. For either system, review the product measuring and installation instructions before placing a made to measure order. Blindmotion also offers a measuring and installation service in eligible Sydney areas; DIY orders are delivered Australia wide.
Still unsure?
Measure the opening, note what the side fixings are made of, and decide whether side gaps matter to you. Then compare the options and instant prices on the ZipGrip and straight drop product pages, or contact Blindmotion before ordering.
